Collective_art

7 PM – Borders: A Collective Art Practice Research Group Perfomance
This mixed reality performance art event is the culmination of 10 weeks of talking to collectives from San Diego and Tijuana about collective practice, online public space and social engagement. The RL performance takes place at the intersection of the borderlands of Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, California as well as within Second Life.  This performance engages in a variety of questions:

  • What are the borders of online public space? How do they relate to the borders of our "first life"?
  • What are the relationships between borders and prisons? How are these separate but related modern features a part of the infrastructure that separates the global north from the global south?
  • How do borders produce gender and how are those dynamics affected by the seeming gender freedom online public space inhabited by avatars? How is gender deviance perceived and discussed in online spaces, in prisons, in borders?
  • Is synchronized dancing as fun in second life as it is in first life?

Bill Moyers; Speech from the National Conference for Media Reform:

Get Involved

Posted on June 7.2008 by jsilver

Legendary journalist Bill Moyers electrified an audience of more than 3,500 in Minneapolis this morning calling the media reform movement "the most significant citizens' movement to emerge in this new century."

Moyers said that the work of activists like you has "challenged the stranglehold of mega-media corporations over our press" and fostered "alternative and independent sources of news and information that people can trust."

Watch Bill Moyers

"You're not alone, and you know what we need to know," he told the audience. "So it's up to you to tell the truth about this country we love. ... It's up to you to remind us that democracy only works when ordinary people claim it as their own."

Moyers was speaking during the second day of the National Conference for Media Reform, an event that has gathered thousands of people dedicated to making our media system more democratic, diverse and accountable.

MEDIA ACTIVISM: Where do I start?

Posted on Jun 10th, 2008 by Happiness : Virtual Architect Happiness

Hello Gaiains!

One of the most earth-mission-critical issues of our times is that of media reform, and promotion of healing, transformational media.

I find that almost everyone I talk to is concerned, but their inevitable question is: But where do I start? What can I do to help bring about positive change?

First, you need to understand the problem, and the issues. Consider the issues around violence, discrimination, promotion of crime and criminality, lack of true heros and inspiring role models, emphasis on gross materialism, exploitative depicitions of sexuality, violence against and degradation of women, ..just for starts.

What are the issues that concern YOU?  That is where you can start. Find an organization that aligns with your passion and is doing something, and help.  I will be listing many groups that you can get to know, and contribute to in whatever way is appropriate for you.

Second, you need to start a Conversation with like minded friends and strangers. Share your concerns, and also share what you are doing about them. Tell your story and point people in the direction of organizations that are doing something, and that they would be proud to be part of.

With these points in mind, I have just launched a new Gaia Forum: TRANSFORMATIONAL MEDIA AND MEDIA REFORM.  This is an activist site, whose purpose is not just to present information, but to provide a directory of people who feel as you do, where you can connect and feel part of the fast-gathering wave around the world of people who understand the power of positive media to serve as a catalyst for the change we all want to see.

The really important thing here is to start thinking, learning, investigating, joining, and doing whatever useful work feels appropriate to you.

Here is the link to our new forum. Please come join!  Transformational Media Summer Camp is in session!

www.pods.gaia.com/transformmedia

And here is the invitation I am sending out. If you are already a Member of our forum, thanks and good for you!

This forum is the beginning of many conversations, and many activities which aspire to create a global wake-up call to action.  Your inspiration, stories, and prayers are the stuff of sweeping change from the grassroots on up.  As a nation, and a planet, we are ready for a new story, and we are the story tellers.  Please be sure to read my friend Larry Brody's fine essay, posted on the forum, "ReWriting the World."  It is time.

Blessings,

HAPPINESS

Are you interested in Transformational Media & Media Reform…?

Do you believe that it would be of value to you to be part of a Gaia forum for discussion, comment and resources which focus on transforming the contemporary media landscape into an environment which is more socially responsible, healing, inspiring and conducive to right conduct and livelihood?

This forum does not aspire to be a destination, but rather a journey, to discover how much interest there is here in Gaia in this subject, and what topics you believe should be included in a website which supports reform and reinvention of today's media environment.

I am currently serving on the Development Team for a major initiative dealing with this subject, and I believe that a social network serving this development process, here on Gaia, could be valuable for all of us.

What would I like from you?

Anything you wish to share on this subject, including links to organizations and resources, your own passionate thoughts about the need for new media that will serve the human community, descriptions of organizations you belong to,activities you believe would be of interest in bringing together teams to collaborate on media-reform issues, themes you believe need to be addressed…  You may wish to simply contribute recommendations of productions in film and TV which you feel are pointing in the right direction.

I look forward to hearing from you, and as the major project I am working with develops, I will keep you advised.

Thanks for any ideas you may wish to share…

HAPPINESS

CONSCIOUS MEDIA: Film - David Sereda's THE VOICE (Trailer)

Posted on Jun 23rd, 2008 by Happiness : Virtual Architect Happiness

Watch the Trailer for The Voice at the link below...

NEW FILM! distributed by What the BLEEP Do We Know!?Filmmaker Betsy Chasse.

Researcher, mystic, scientist, and filmmaker, David Sereda takes you on a journey of exploration in human consciousness. During the film he shares with you his own fascinating and compelling mystical experiences and compares and contrasts these with others from all walks of life - scientists, mystics, and artists, as well as ordinary individuals who have touched the Divine. David will guide you on a thought-provoking journey that will help you clarify your own path.

THE VOICE is a compilation of interviews with experts in their respective fields of science, mysticism, and art. It presents a diversity of viewpoints on spirituality and various aspects of human consciousness. While we originally intended that this movie ANSWER many of the questions about human consciousness, we have instead been guided to create a controversial film which will stir discussion, help the spiritual seeker understand various facets inherent in the spiritual path as experienced by individuals from many walks of life, and help each viewer find THE VOICE of consciousness within themselves. The expert opinions provided are meant to assist you in finding the truth within you. Only in seeking this unity in the diversity of opinion, fact, research, and expression will humanity ever evolve beyond war, manipulation, control, and domination. We hope this film inspires discussion, debate, and eventually recognition of our common ground.

The film helps us answer questions that human beings face: What is consciousness? How does consciousness affect our reality and how do our thoughts become things? What is mind over matter and how does this occur?

The science of consciousness provides us with tangible methodology of how to reach enlightenment!

THE VOICE helps every viewer find their VOICE and the VOICE of God within them. The evolution in consciousness that we all seek is to share perspectives and find the unity within the diversity. That unity comes from opening the mind and heart to see that every soul upon this planet is seeking truth - the truth of God as it is expressed through them. There is not, and never has been one single idea of truth that, if embraced, will provide enlightenment. Instead, God inspires each and every soul to follow a truth that is theirs and theirs alone and if they do so, they will find the enlightenment that God intended for them. Meditation is one path but not the only path. Religion is one path but not the only path. Solitude allows some to find God while others seek the kaleidoscope of His wonder among the throngs of humanity. Some find God in the peaceful solace in a country existence, while others find Him in the bustle and diversity of modern city life... for God is all of this and so much more.

“Those who come as skeptics and leave as skeptics, might then have a more clear understanding of who they really are."
